Terms & Conditions
These terms govern your use of the Backlot Chrome extension (the "Extension") and the website at trybacklot.com (the "Site"). By installing the Extension or using the Site you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, uninstall the Extension and stop using the Site.
1. License
The Extension is a personal project by Nimit Bhargava. All rights are reserved. You may install and use the Extension for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not copy, modify, redistribute, decompile, reverse-engineer, or otherwise exploit the Extension or its source code without explicit written permission from the author.
2. As-is, no warranty
The Extension and the Site are provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. In no event will the author be liable for any claim, damages, or other liability arising from, out of, or in connection with the Extension, the Site, or their use.
The Extension reads metadata from Netflix's pages and from The Movie Database (TMDB). Either of these can change at any time without notice and break the Extension. There is no service-level agreement, no uptime guarantee, and no obligation to keep the Extension working.
3. No affiliation
Backlot is a personal, independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Netflix, Inc., Amazon (the trademark owner of "Prime Video" and "X-Ray"), TMDB, Stripe, Google, or any other third party. All product names, logos, and brands referenced are property of their respective owners. Any references are nominative — used solely to describe what the Extension does.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the Extension or Site for anything illegal under the laws applicable to you.
- Attempt to circumvent Netflix's terms of service. The Extension reads only the public-facing watch page that your browser already loads; it does not scrape, automate playback, bypass DRM, or download content.
- Reverse-engineer, repackage, or redistribute the Extension or its source code in any form.
- Use the Extension to harvest data, automate user behavior, or in any way that violates Netflix's, TMDB's, or Google's terms of service.
5. Backlot Pro (paid subscription)
The "Ask" tab in the Extension offers an AI-powered chat about what you're watching. The first 25 messages are free; continued use requires a paid Backlot Pro subscription.
Pricing
- $2.99 / month, billed monthly via Stripe.
- $24.99 / year, billed annually via Stripe (~30% off).
Prices are in US dollars. Local taxes (VAT, GST, sales tax) may apply depending on your jurisdiction; if so, Stripe collects them at checkout.
Cancellation
You can cancel at any time from the "Manage subscription" link inside the Ask tab (which opens the Stripe Customer Portal), or directly via Stripe. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep Pro access until then. After that, the account reverts to the free tier (25-message lifetime quota minus any messages already sent).
Refunds
Subscriptions are billed in advance. If you cancel within 7 days of a charge and have not used a meaningful portion of that billing period (definition: more than 25 paid messages sent), you can request a full refund by emailing hello@nimit.dev from the email address on your subscription. After 7 days, refunds are at the author's discretion. There are no partial-period refunds for unused time outside the 7-day window.
Service availability
The AI service depends on third-party LLM APIs (currently Google Gemini) and may be temporarily unavailable. There is no SLA. If the service is materially degraded for an extended period (multiple days), credits or refunds will be considered case-by-case.
Acceptable use of the Ask tab
You agree not to use the AI chat to generate prohibited content (illegal, defamatory, harassing, child-exploitative, or otherwise violating Google's or Anthropic's usage policies). Abuse will result in subscription termination without refund.
6. Your data
What the Extension and the Site collect, transmit, and store is described in full in the Privacy Policy. By using either, you consent to that handling.
7. Third-party services
Using the Extension involves making requests to third-party services including Netflix, TMDB, and Google (for analytics). Your use of those services is governed by their respective terms; the author is not responsible for their availability, terms, or behavior.
8. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Extension after a change constitutes acceptance.
9. Governing law
To the extent these terms require interpretation under any specific jurisdiction's law, they will be governed by the laws of India, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts located in Bengaluru, India.
